Welcome to all of our new subscribers, I'm glad you're here. To all of our old subscribers I'm glad you're here too!

I hope everyone is having a good week. I know amidst the ice and rain and sleet and snow (it can't make up its mind), I took some time out  to walk at the local community center and shoot some hoops with my kids. I want to make sure I get some extra exercise every week like that to make up for winter's doldrums.

Here's a great plan to help you have a good week each and every week:

1. Set yourself a action goal. Think about a goal that you want to achieve for the coming week in regards to your weight loss program.

2. Make sure it is a positive statement. Say "I will exercise 10 minutes per day"  instead of saying "I will not skip exercising this week."

3. The goal should be within the capabilities of your lifestyle. Don't set yourself a goal of exercising an hour per day if you don't have the extra time in your schedule.

4. You should have complete control over whether you can achieve it or not. For example don't set a goal that you will lose 8 pounds in one week because there are too many variables out of your control.

My goal for the week is: " I will drink at least 6 glasses of water per day." Make yourself a goal, focus on your goal and you will have a good week.

The first of two articles to help you this week is the benefits of home exercise and the second article is about the power of a positive weight loss attitude.

Recipe

Portobello Burgers

Ingredients:
4 large Portobello mushrooms
2 cloves garlic, sliced into very thin slivers
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary or 1/2 teaspoon dried, (optional)
1 teaspoon fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon dried, (optional)
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons balsamic or red wine vinegar
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Directions:
Preheat broiler or grill.

In a large bowl, mix the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda and baking powder.

Wipe mushrooms with damp cloth. Remove stems. With paring knife, make slits in tops of caps. Stuff slivers of garlic and herbs (if using) into slits.

In small; bowl, whisk together oil and vinegar with salt and pepper to taste. Brush mushrooms with oil mixture.

Place mushrooms, cap-side down, on pan and broil or grill until soft and brown, about three to five minutes per side.
Serve in place of a steak or with lettuce and tomato on toasted whole-grain buns.

4 Servings Calories: 94 calories each
