Hi,

Welcome to all of our new subscribers, I'm glad you're here. To all of our old subscribers I'm glad you're here too!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because not only does it give you a good beginning it make sure you don't go hungry the whole day and slack of your healthy eating style. Be sure to take time to eat breakfast to provide energy to "start your head" for the day ahead. Winning breakfasts that are quick, easy and healthy include:

  • bagels with your favorite low-fat cream cheese
  • ready-to-eat cereal topped with sliced banana and yogurt
  • quick hot cereals
  • bran muffins served with fresh fruit
  • peanut butter on toast with milk
  • dinner leftovers wrapped in a tortilla
  • yogurt sprinkled with whole grain cereal
  • breakfast shakes can be made with milk or yogurt, fruit and a teaspoon of bran

Hope those breakfast tips help you start your day off healthily. Don't forget to add a little exercise too!

Be sure to read the article called Before You Begin To Lift Weights.  I've also included an article with information on Negative Calorie Foods and Weight LossHave a good week!

Until next time...stay on your plan and stay healthy!

Easy Tip Of The Week:

What we choose to eat can have a direct affect on our ability to enjoy life to its fullest. This is true for everyone, despite his or her age and current health. Our food choices play a major role in:

  • Promoting and maintaining good health;
  • Promoting growth in infants, children and adolescents;
  • Preventing some chronic diseases (like heart disease and diabetes) and treating others; and,
  • Speeding recovery from injuries and surgery.

Exercise

Surround yourself with supportive people.  Decide what kind of support you need.  Do you want them to remind you to exercise or just ask about your progress?  Do you want them to participate with you regularly or occasionally or just allow you time to exercise by yourself?  Its best to share your activity time with others by making a date with a family member, friend or co-worker.  This will also make you an active role model for your children.

Recipe

Salsa

  • 5 medium tomatoes (Vine or Roma work very well)
  • ½ jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
  • ½ green pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 2 scallions (green onions), chopped into thin slices
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
  • Generous handful of fresh cilantro
  • 1 Tb lime juice
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

You can prepare any the ingredients either by hand or using a food processor, depending on what texture you like your salsa. I like to chop my scallions very thin by hand. I seed and chop half of my tomatoes by hand; the other half I puree (seeds and all) in my food processor. I also use my food processor to mince the peppers, yellow onion, garlic, and cilantro. Mix everything in a medium bowl. Add lime juice, cumin, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir it up and serve!
