Welcome to all of our new subscribers, I'm glad you're here. To all of our old subscribers I'm glad you're here too!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I know I'm early but I like to celebrate. I hope everyone is having a great week. The best way to celebrate St. Patrick's day when you are eating healthy is to eat lean corned beef, boil potatoes and use butter spray, and don't forget plenty of green vegetables. You can celebrate too!. If you're going out...drink lite beer and cut your wine with club soda or diet seven up...and dance, dance, dance.

When you are going through your week visualize your success and you will achieve it. Visualize what you want to be and you will be it. Visualize your good habits and they will become part of you.

Be sure to read the article which is a review of the Atkins diet. Carbs are such a hot topic now that I thought it would be interesting to you  and I've included an article on the ten commandments of weight loss.

Easy Tip Of The Week:

HOW TO MAKE YOUR BURGERS LEAN

How do you transform a regular 4 ounce hamburger
 
FROM
350 calories and 30 grams of fat
 
TO
198 calories with 11 grams of fat

 Grill or broil on a rack until WELL DONE. 

About 2 ounces of fat drips out of the meat when you broil or grill ground
round beef or chuck well done. This method reduces fat by 200% and
calories by 40%. Your burger is ONLY 330 calories by using a lower calorie hamburger bun such as Roman Meal wheat and adding mustard or light mayonnaise and 380 calories if you add 1 ounce of low fat cheese. That's less calories and fat than several heaps of salad dressing poured over a salad.
 
Extra lean ground beef (5% fat) is very expensive. You can save 80% by
purchasing regular ground beef and broil or grill until well done. Low fat
cooking is easy when you know how.

Recipe

Heart Healthy Pasta Sauce
Low Fat Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
12 ounces frozen soy crumbles*
2 cans (14.5 oz. each) cut tomatoes
2 cups zucchini, cut into 1/2 x 1/2 x 2-inch strips
1/4 cup dry red wine
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
12 ounces soy or regular pasta
2 tablespoons minced parsley

Directions:
In large saucepan, sauté onion, mushrooms and garlic in vegetable oil until onion is tender. Add soy crumbles, tomatoes, zucchini, wine and seasonings; bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 20 to 30 minutes or until sauce thickens. Cook pasta according to package directions. Serve sauce over pasta. Garnish with parsley.

*Look for soy crumbles in the frozen food section.

Makes 6 servings.

Serving tip: Serve with Parmesan cheese, if desired.
