Welcome to all of our new subscribers, I'm glad you're here. To all of our old subscribers I'm glad you're here too!

An easy way to help you stick with your diet is to make sure you eat breakfast. That meal will sustain you through the day and leave your body not feeling like it is getting cheated out of anything. Here are some quick breakfast ideas: 

  • Bagels with your favorite low-fat cream cheese

  • Ready-to-eat cereal topped with sliced banana and yogurt

  • Quick hot cereals

  • Bran muffins served with fresh fruit

  • Peanut butter on toast with milk

  • Dinner leftovers wrapped in a tortilla

  • Yogurt sprinkled with whole grain cereal

  • Breakfast shakes made with milk or yogurt and fruit along with a tsp. of bran.

Easy Tip Of The Week:

Eating more fiber is a great way to feel fuller throughout the day. Your breakfast should  pack a fiber punch. Make sure you use whole wheat bread for toast. Choose a high-fiber cereal like raisin bran. Enjoy some fruit with its skin such as an apple.

Not only will the carbs give your energy level a boost, the fiber will give your meal extra staying-power and get you closer to the 25 grams of fiber we're all supposed to get each day.

Exercise

Surround yourself with supportive people.  Decide what kind of support you need.  Do you want them to remind you to exercise?  Ask about your progress?  Participate with you regularly or occasionally?  Allow you time to exercise by yourself?  Go with you to a special event, such as a 10K walk/run? 

Share your activity time with others.  Make a date with a family member, friend or co-worker.  Be an active role model for your children.

Recipe

Apple Stuffed Squash

Ingredients:
2 tsp. unsalted butter
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 cup apples, peeled and chopped
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
1/2 tsp. dried thyme leaves
1-1/4 lbs. acorn squash, washed and cut in half lengthwise
aluminum foil 

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F. Melt butter in a heavy nonstick skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions 3-4 minutes, until tender. Remove from heat and stir next 3 ingredients. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Divide apple filling among squashes. Arrange squash halves in a baking dish. Add 1/2 inch water and cover dish tightly with foil. Bake 1 hour, or until squash is tender. Do not undercook.

Makes 4 servings
