Welcome to all of our new subscribers, I'm glad you're here. To all of our old subscribers I'm glad you're here too!

Happy Halloween! This is just the beginning of what I consider the holiday season.  Halloween first, Thanksgiving follows and then Christmas is not too far behind.  All of these special days offer more so than the usual challenges in maintaining weight loss resolve.

I have trick or treating age kids at my house so they bring home a lot of candy. It's extra hard to stay focused. I have my kids keep it in their room so I do not have access to it. Also, I only buy enough candy to give out so I don't have any leftovers and I buy candy I do not like. Every little effort helps in the long run.

Take each day as it comes, write down everything you eat or drink  in a journal and exercise. You will make it this time. Be sure to read the featured articles this month.  One is about Dr. Phil and his 3 Important Rules to Follow.  The other is everything you wanted to know about the Winsor Pilates systems of weight loss.

Here is an inspiring weight loss story I happened across. You may want to take a look here. She achieved her goals with the Weight Watchers program which is so successful for so many people.

Easy Tip Of The Week:

Visualize each small goal in terms you can connect with. Most people don't realize what a pound of fat looks like and how much it actually amounts to. Think of 4 sticks of butter....each stick is equal to 1/4 of a pound.

Here are more ways to visualize weight loss:

  • Try carrying a 5 pound bag of potatoes or sugar around the grocery store for a while. Not so light anymore is it?
  • Fill a backpack with anything equivalent to your total weight loss. Move around with it on for a while and see how heavy it feels.

Exercise

Weightlifting is better than aerobics for weight loss. Although you burn more body fat when you perform aerobics, your metabolism slows down faster. Unlike aerobics, weightlifting keeps the metabolism going long after the workout is done.

Recipe

Two Bean Dip

1 (16-oz.) can Great Northern beans, drained
1/2 cup chopped onion, divided
3 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp. salt, divided
1/2 tsp. black pepper, divided
2 small garlic cloves, divided
1 (15-oz.) can black beans, drained
1 (4.5-oz.) can chopped green chiles, drained
1/4 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 cup (2 oz.) finely shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
1/4 cup sliced green onion tops
Garlic pita chips

Combine the Great Northern beans, 1/4 cup chopped onion, Parmesan cheese, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper and 1 garlic clove in a food processor; process until smooth. Spoon white bean mixture into a bowl on one side; set aside. Combine the black beans, 1/4 cup chopped onion, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, 1 garlic clove, chiles, and cumin in a food processor; process until smooth. Spoon black bean mixture into other side of bowl containing white bean mixture. Sprinkle cheddar cheese and green onions between 2 bean dips. Serve with Garlic pita chips.
